Luka Burilovic, President (HGK)LPJ Issue 153, 19 October 2015

On 13-18 October, as part of President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic’s official visit to China, her visit included an economic component by including a Croatian business delegation, led by President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK) Luka Burilovic. The aim of the visit was to strengthen cooperation between Croatian and Chinese companies, increase trade, seek investment opportunities and promote Croatia’s tourism.

At the meeting with China’s PM Li Keqiang, Burilovic stated that Croatia offered access to an EU market of 500 million people, adding that, due to its geo-strategic position, Croatia was the ‘door’ to Europe. “A network of Adriatic ports enables the fastest and shortest route over land and sea to Europe and other destinations. An example of this is the sea route to the Middle and Far East, which is one week shorter than the North Sea route”, he explained. Keqiang responded that China was ready to step forward in terms of opening markets for Croatian products, especially in the agricultural sector.

The total value of the trade between Croatia and China amounted to €18.3 million in 2014, with Croatian exports amounting to €8.4 million, up 64% year-on-year.
