President Conducts 1st Round of Consultations with Political Parties, Uncertainty Continues
On 26 November, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic held the first round of consultations with newly elected representatives of political parties and ethnic minorities, after receiving the official results of the parliamentary elections on 24 November.
The relative victor of the elections is the “Patriotic Coalition”, led by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), winning 59 seats in the Sabor, followed by the “Croatia is Growing” coalition, led by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which received 56 seats. The absolute surprise of the elections was “The Bridge of Independent Lists” (MOST), winning 19 seats, becoming the deciding factor in forming a new government.
President Kitarovic concluded that none of the political parties / coalitions enjoyed the confidence of a majority of elected representatives (i.e. 76 parliamentary seats).
