PORT INFRASTRUCTURE: Rijeka Port Authority Issues Tender for New Terminal Project
On 30 October, the Rijeka Port Authority issued a concession tender for the future container terminal project located on the western part of the port, i.e. the Zagreb Pier Container Terminal, valued up to €200 million.
The tender is part of Croatia’s main seaport Rijeka modernisation project – Rijeka Gateway Project (RGP). The project envisages the modernisation, overhauling and restructuring of the Rijeka Port; the RGP would also gradually change the landscape of the city and nearby coastline, since it aims to transform the port into one of the most important Croatian and Central and Eastern European ports.
The total volume of investments by the port authority amounts to €190 million; €160 million were obtained through a World Bank loan and the remaining €30 million from government subsidies. According to the study the port commissioned from a Dutch consultancy firm in 2008, the RGP foresees the development of the new port facilities in the western part of the Zagreb pier, within the Brajdica area and in the ports Brsica and Bakar (outside of Rijeka).
