Davorin Mlakar (HDZ), Constitutional Court Judge
6 June 2016, VG Intelligence Weekly Issue 009
On 3 June, the Parliament (Sabor) finally ratified 10 candidates to become Constitutional Court (CC) Judges. As a result, the Sabor avoided a constitutional crisis at the last moment, since on 7 June four of the CC Judges’ mandates would have expired, leaving the court without a quorum. Local media disclosed part of the HDZ leadership were against Davorin Mlakar’s nomination for the CC, due to his alleged involvement in Hypo Bank’s corruptive practices regarding real estate property on the Island of Pag. Nevertheless, former Public Administration Minister was subsequently included on the list of candidates. In his career, Mlakar was also Vice-President of Agrokor for legal affairs and human resources, and a legal representative of Europapress Holding.
