OIL & GAS: Trans Adriatic Pipeline to Transport Azeri Gas to Southeast and Central Europe

The Shah Deniz II consortium – BP, Statoil, SOCAR, Total, Lukoil, NOIC, TPAO – developing Azerbaijan’s natural-gas and oil field has selected the Trans Adriatic Pipeline to transport its gas to Europe through Turkey, Greece, Albania to Italy and through the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline along Croatia’s Adriatic coastline onto to central Europe. Shah Deniz II cited higher gas prices in Italy and Greece as justification for choosing the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project over the competing Nabucco West project.

TAP’s 800 km pipeline is a shorter and less expensive route. T TAP, co-owned by Switzerland’s Axpo, Norway’s Statoil and Germany’s EON, will supply southeast and central Europe with up to 10-20 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year.
