MOVERS & SHAKERS: Igor Dragovan, Secretary General, Social Democratic Party (SDP)

Dragovan is the SDP Secretary General and the party’s campaign manager for the upcoming parliamentary elections (11 Sep). As a close confidante of SDP President Zoran Milanovic and the party’s chief operative, Dragovan headed the party’s parliamentary caucus during the last parliamentary (i.e. Sabor) convocation and the SDP’s campaign in the November 2015 elections. He is also in charge of coordinating the party branches throughout the country. The SDP is currently leading the People’s Coalition in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The coalition also includes the Croatian People’s Party (HNS), Croatian Pensioners Party (HSU) and the centre-right Croatian Peasant Party (HSS).

Born in 1968 in Slavonski Brod, Dragovan completed his secondary education in mathematics in Slavonski Brod, and attended the Civil Engineering Faculty, University of Zagreb, which he never completed.  He was the founder and first President of the SDP Youth Forum and Member of the SDP Executive Board (1996 to 2000).
