LAWS TO WATCH: Health Legislation Package
Changes to the Health Care Act and the Compulsory Health Insurance Act will provide for the establishment of private general hospitals, which would be part of the public health care network and will be financed by the Croatian Institute for Health Insurance (HZZO). Local governments may award concessions to private entrepreneurs to provide services in the following medical specialties: general (i.e. family) practice, paediatrics, gynaecology and dentistry. Instead of providing primary health care, health centres will now provide fast diagnosis and specialist treatment, which will alleviate services overloads on hospitals.
Proposed by: Ministry of Health
Note: The ministry formed a special working group, composed of representatives from the ministry, trade unions and the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP), to discuss the legislative changes.
