LAWS TO WATCH: Defence Act

buljevicLPJ Issue 174, 29 March 2016

The proposed amendments state that the Croatian Armed Forces can provide support to the police in the protection of the state border, in accordance with the State Border Control Act, which governs border surveillance.

Such a decision can be made by a recommendation of the Minister of Defence, but only with prior approval by the President and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and can be made only in order to prevent a potential outbreak of the humanitarian crisis. The new amendments have been justified by the migrant crisis and the possible necessity of protecting the external borders of the European Union.

Proposed by: Ministry of Defence
