LAWS TO WATCH: Agricultural Land Act
According to the proposed amendments, the act simplifies the agricultural land lease process. Speeding up the disposal of agricultural land will enable the completion registering agricultural land in the National Land Parcel Identification System (AKORD), which is a prerequisite for the use of EU funds. The act abolishes water charges for the lease of fish farms.
The Agricultural Land Agency will be given greater authority to issue public tenders for the lease of land, whereby they may issue a tender autonomously if it possesses the necessary documentation. Presently, tenders are only issued at the initiative of the local government unit, or interested natural or legal entities.
State-owned agricultural land can be substituted for privately-owned agricultural land located in the territory of the same or neighbouring local governments, in order to achieve cost-effectiveness. The act also allows the sale of state-owned agricultural land owned through direct agreements, in cases where the state is co-owner with the applicant.
