GOVERNMENT: Rijeka Gateway Project Declared Strategic Investment Project
The government approved the proposal by the State Commission for Strategic Projects to name the Rijeka Gateway Project (RGP) a project of strategic interest to the Republic of Croatia, which will allow the project management to expedite and bypass various project development stages, including permitting, urban planning issues, property issues, etc. The decision allows for the Ministry of Justice to expedite the expropriation of required property.
The project is being realised under a public private partnership. The 1st phase is valued at €145 million with completion forecast for 2017.
The Rijeka Port Authority intends to build a 400 m terminal funded by the World Bank, while the concessionaire will finance the construction of the infrastructure for the terminal (Terminal Zagreb) itself. The 2nd phase is valued at €66 million and is a 280 m extension to the terminal to be completed by 2020; if the port authority does not complete the extension in this time period, the concessionaire is allowed to build the 2nd phase.
The following companies have shown interest in the concession: Portugese Tertir, French Bollore, French CMA CGM; deadline for the submission of concession bids has been extended from 30 May 2014 to 31 July 2014…
