FDI: IKEA Receives Construction Permit
After 5 years of preparation, battling Croatia’s complex and cumbersome bureaucracy, the Swedish international home products company received their construction permit to build a retail complex east of Zagreb in the municipality of Rugvica.
The permit was delivered by Zagreb County Prefect Stjepan Kozic. The complex is valued at €100 million and construction is scheduled to begin this spring, employing up to 350 persons. The complex is scheduled to open in 2014.
The project hinged on the relocation of a toll booth and the construction of a motorway exit for the complex by the state-owned Croatian Motorways Company (HAC). It is unclear why this negotiation between HAC and IKEA required years to complete…
