EC Launches Capital Markets Union Action Plan
On 30 September, the European Commission (EC) launched the Capital Markets Union (CMU) Action Plan, aimed at boosting business funding and investment financing. The plan intends to build a true single market for capital across the EU, with one of the first and most urgent steps being the re-launch of sound securitisation markets.
The CMU, a key pillar of the Juncker Investment Plan, aims to tackle investment shortages by increasing and diversifying funding sources for Europe’s businesses and long-term projects.
EC Vice-President Jyrki Katainen, responsible for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, stated that the most important part of the Investment Plan for Europe was removing obstacles to investment by deepening the single market.
