AZTN: Opinion on City of Zagreb Taxi Services Decision

The AZTN published their opinion on the Decision of the City of Zagreb on the provision of taxi services. The AZTN concluded that the Transportation Act gives the City of Zagreb the authority to set taxi transportation pricing.

Therefore, the city is allowed to set the maximum taxi transportation price, including the start price for a ride or price per kilometre, which would allow market competition between entrepreneurs up until the maximum allowed price.

However, the AZTN considers the added administrative pricing by the City of Zagreb to be a measure that reduces market competition between taxi service providers and reduces value to consumers; this administrative pricing is regulated through Article 3 of the Decision and prohibits the start price for a ride to be free of charge…
