Broadband Access Development Strategy 2016-2020

Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Oleg Butkovic (HDZ) proposed the adoption of the Decision on Broadband Access Development Strategy 2016-2020. The measures enlisted in the Strategy enable the acceleration of broadband electronic communications infrastructure development, in accordance with the EU Digital Agenda. The Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Ministry is obliged to establish a committee within the next 30 days to monitor the implementation of the strategy. The strategy enables investments worth €760.6 million. There is also a vast number of areas lacking sufficient commercial interest for such investments. Therefore, the government adopted the National Framework Programme for Broadband Infrastructure Development in those areas, which is essentially a state aid programme, approved by the European Commission (EC).
